Help Out the Food Bank for NYC Today! 150 150 David Rosengarten

FBNYurl_PMS144cThis evening, I will be joining a number of politicians and celebs, chefs and otherwise, at the Food Bank for NYC’s 2015 Can Do Dinner! You might have caught wind of their efforts to fight hunger lately thanks to a certain movie star trying (and failing!) to eat her week’s worth of meals on just $29, also known as taking the #FoodBankNYCChallenge. The Food Bank for NYC has been around since 1983, and has provided more than a billion meals to hungry New Yorkers. As a born and bred native, I cannot believe that in this day and age, our great city is still fighting to feed its citizens!! This very day, one in five New Yorkers depends upon a soup kitchen or food pantry to eat–2.6 million of us have difficulty affording food for themselves and their families!! Tonight’s dinner is not just about sitting around and eating the delicious plates coming out of the Cipriani Wall Street’s kitchen, it’s about raising money for this wonderful organization that is literally doing God’s work.

Now, I know most of you are like, “But David, we can’t afford to go to these fancy pants gala dinners!” Well, here is what you CAN do to help: head on over to their online auction and bid away!! There are all sorts of fantastic prizes to be won. Want to plan a long weekend in food-rific Vermont, lounging in Adirondack chairs by gorgeous Lake Champlain? Admiring Vermont’s breathtaking fall foliage from a kayak on Lake Champlain is definitely a once-in-a-lifetime experience! Want to impress your friends by learning how to decorate a beautiful cake by the more beautiful Gail Simmons (yes, THAT Gail Simmons!)? Next time she appears on the tube to judge a dish, you can brag about eating frosting together. Or, and this is my personal favorite item up for auction, get a hockey stick signed by the entire (and hopefully Stanley Cup-winning!) 2014-2015 New York Rangers team, as well as a jersey signed by Food Bank for NYC Celebrity Ambassador King Henrick himself!! I dare you to make me outbid you! A set of KitchenAid appliances! A case of D.O.C.G. wine! Omakase at Nobu Fifty Seven! Mikimoto pearls!! Bid, and bid again, and keep bidding until the auctions close tonight at 9pm. Each dollar raised means five more meals Food Bank for NYC will be able to serve–let’s fight hunger together!
