2011 Domaine Boyer-Gontard Bourgogne Aligoté ($29)

“I am tickled by the concept of great Meursault soil yielding a white grape other than Chardonnay…but that’s exactly what we have here! An Aligoté from Meursault! This wine can’t be called “Meursault,” of course, because it’s not Chardonnay…but it’s like no Aligoté I’ve ever tasted. Aligoté often appeals to me for its lightness, crispness, great acidity.

The cool thing is that this Aligoté has all that…plus a kind of plushness that comes from its pedigree, AND an incipient minerality that comes from its terroir. Excellent food wine right now, more complex in 2-3 years. Perfect for Belon oysters, and lots of other shellfish. Good cream-sauce white as well, and white-meat white!” – David Rosengarten
